(Medford, OR ) - Rogue Credit Union, in partnership with KTVL News 10, recently launched a campaign to help a family in need. The original goal was to raise $1,000 to give a local family a helping hand. That goal was blown out of the water as Rogue and its members contributed nearly $4,300 this holiday season to help families in need.
"This does not surprise me," states Gene Pelham - President and CEO of Rogue Credit Union, "Rogue has some great members and employees who really know when it's time to step up to the plate and help out local folks". Rogue placed jars in their branches and encouraged members to donate their spare change to help local families in need. Simultaneously, KTVL ran on-air promotions inviting people who need help, or those that knew of people in need, to go online and nominate a family. The community response was phenomenal, KTVL generated over a million hits on their website during this promotion with over 180 families nominated in the process. Rogue contributed a gift of $1,000 for the family that received the most votes on KTVL's website and the $3,300 in generous donations from members and employees were divided amongst 10 families in hope of making a small, but much needed difference in their lives.
Everyday, Rogue Credit Union members share incredible stories about the seemingly insurmountable financial odds that they are facing. "We hear stories from folks that had 30 years of perfect credit history prior to the recession. Now they are about to lose their home. We also hear the stories of unforeseen hardship due to medical issues or a host of other reasons" - states Pelham. In difficult times, the communities that survive and then thrive are those communities that join together to help everyone get through. This was a chance to prove that Southern Oregon is a community that can and will thrive!
